Travolta mourns Gandolfini
Actors and fans mourned the death of James Gandolfini last week. And among those hailing “The Sopranos” star and vowing support for the Gandolfini family was John Travolta, the late actor’s multiple co-star and longtime friend.
Travolta said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that Gandolfini was one of the Travolta family’s biggest supporters after their 16-year-old son Jett died in early 2009.
“James went out of his way to come to Florida, and he would not leave Florida until I was OK, or he felt that I would be fine,” Travolta recalled, referring to the family’s home in north Marion County. “After a week I said, ‘Jim, you can really (go) … you know, we’ll be fine. I’ve got a lot of support here.’ But the idea that in our profession someone would go out of their way and not want to leave you until he felt you were OK, that’s the kind of soul that James Gandolfini was.”
“My goal,” Travolta added, “is to make sure his family is OK.”
Gandolfini died last week of an apparent heart attack. He and Travolta appeared in at least four films together: “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” in 2009, “Lonely Hearts” in 2006, “A Civil Action” in 1998 and “Get Shorty” in 1995.
“The beautiful thing about Jim was that he was a people person first,” Travolta said on “GMA.” “Beautiful man, and I love him very much.”
