Hasta Siempre, Comandante [2]

“Hasta Siempre, Comandante,” (“Until Forever, Commander” in English) or simply “Hasta Siempre,” is a 1965 song by Cuban composer Carlos Puebla. The song’s lyrics are a reply to revolutionary Che Guevara’s farewell letter when he left Cuba, in order to foster revolution in the Congo and later Bolivia,[1] where he was captured and killed.
The song became iconic after Guevara’s death, and many left-leaning artists did their own cover versions of the song afterwards. The title is a part of Guevara’s well known saying “¡Hasta la victoria siempre!” (“Until victory, always!”).[2]

HASTA LA MUERTE (UNTIL DEATH) [5]

Widely acknowledged as one of the most important Spanish artists of the Romantic era, Francisco de Goya (1746–1828) was a supremely innovative printmaker, thanks to his experimentation with the newly invented aquatint process. Aquatint produces areas of tone by applying powdered resin to the metal printing plate, and Goya combined this with etching and burnishing to produce images of great tonal depth, employing theatrical contrasts of light and dark.
An English sale catalogue of 1814 described Caprichos as representing ‘every kind of vice from the highest to the lowest classes…the avaricious, lascivious, cowards, bullies…prostitutes and hypocrites’. These caricatures, attacking the familiar targets of lawyers, doctors, soldiers and priests, were deeply unpopular with the Spanish Inquisition
It represents an age-old topic for social criticism, the deluded vanity of old age, as the wizened crone clings to the illusion of her beauty ‘Until Death’.. Although Goya enjoyed enormous popularity in France, admired by the poet Chales Baudelaire and painters including Édouard Manet, the English were slow to appreciate his work

Is “siempre” ever used as an adjective? [16]

Ever since I first read the slogan “Hasta la victoria siempre” I always assumed that siempre was an adjective qualifying victoria. So if I had had to translate it into English I would have said something like “Towards eternal victory”
This seems strange to me as I would have expected if it was modifying the preposition hasta it would have come first in the sentence. So is the RAE behind the times or is this just a stylistic thing and it really is modifying hasta?
1There’s no rule that adverbs must come first in a proposition. Thus you can say Siempre hago esto or Hago siempre esto or Esto lo hago siempre, each with a different focus (emphasis); all of them are OK.– pablodf76Dec 17, 2018 at 22:25

Che Guevara: Hasta la Victoria Siempre [17]

There is no question that Ernesto Guevara de la Serna was a remarkable man. He is fundamentally fascinating, no matter whether you loathe or adore him and his causes
No matter where you stand on his contributions to history, it’s hard to disagree with the idea that he was, and continues to be, profoundly important.. Perhaps more significantly, there is also no question that El Che is now more an idea than a human, more a concept than an historical actor
As is too often the case with icons, little thought is given to the rest of the story. Ask most folks, worldwide, about the man on their t-shirt, and they’ll respond with varying degrees of this comforting story: El Che was a freedom fighter, and an unquestionably great man; he fought and died in a battle for the little guy against the three-headed juggernaut of imperialism, capitalism, and Americanism; he was murdered by the United States government because he was trying to overthrow their control of poor people in Latin America; he was, and always will be, the patron saint of the struggle for socialist revolution.
