NCIS Hawaii Filming Locations: Where is the Hit TV Show Filmed?

NCIS Hawaii is a 2021 spinoff of the long-running CBS show NCIS. It’s a police procedural drama starring Vanessa Lachey in the lead role of a Naval Crime Investigative Service stationed in Hawaii. In each episode, Lachey, in the role of Jane Tennant, a female officer and the first one to lead that post, takes on multiple cases that threaten American interests in regard to defense, security, and terrorism.

Executively produced by Jan Nash, Matt Bosack, and Christopher Silver, the spinoff borrows the concept from the parent series as well as some of the scriptwriters to deliver an interesting story, and as usual with the NCIS franchise, it also tells on each episode tidbits about the NCIS Hawaii’s roster personal lives, focusing on Lachey’s character.

Additionally, the show features a few crossover episodes with some of the previous NCIS franchises, like NCIS Los Angeles and the original one. Today, we’re going to explore the filming locations for this CBS show. We’ll take you to the places where the television magic takes place to deliver us this novel series with a strong female lead.

NCIS Hawaii Filming Locations

NCIS Hawaii is filmed entirely on location in the state of Hawaii. It is one of the most expensive productions by CBS networks on their roster of prime-time shows. With the collaboration of the US Navy and also using a location on North Oahu’s shore, the show becomes alive.

Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii, United States

The Pearl Harbor Naval Base, formally known as the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, is a military base on the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii, home to the US armed forces’ presence in that state. Both the Navy and the Air Force share the space.

Pearl Harbor base is the home to the powerful US Pacific Fleet, and it is historically known as the place where Imperial Japan attacked the United States on December 7, 1941, sinking the USS Arizona and other vessels and causing mass casualties, prompting the US entry into World War II.

It is here where the cast and crew of NCIS Hawaii film the exterior shots, giving us the feeling that we are with them inside a military base with top-notch equipment solving cases that threaten American defense interests.

Oahu North Shore, United States, Hawaii

Also known by the Pacific Islander natives as “The Gathering Place,” Oahu is the third largest island in the Hawaii archipelago. It is home to about a million people, and it is a beautiful filming location. Oahu is home to Honolulu, the Capital city of Hawaii.

And it is here, at an undisclosed location —because the producers like to keep the filming process with a tight lid to avoid the unwanted curious crowd— where the cast and crew of NCIS Hawaii gather to film the interior shots and some exterior action shots of this police procedural drama series.

The location is rumored to be the same as for Hawaii 5-0, but so far, no one has been able to confirm it. Still, judging from the exterior shots showcased across the series’ 44 episodes so far, it is evident that it is somewhere on the North Shore of Oahu.

As we can see, NCIS Hawaii is a big bet on behalf of the CBS network as it is filmed entirely in the state of Hawaii, a beautiful location right in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with amazing views that are showcased in the show’s exterior scenes and indoors as well as the Pearl Harbor naval base.

If you like NCIS Hawaii, be sure to check out its two seasons on Paramount+ and Amazon Prime Video, and get ready to catch up if you’re hooked after watching because a third one is on the way.
